Fisheries technologist refers to a person who is a holder of a valid certificate of registration and professional identification card in fisheries issued by Board and the Professional Regulation Commission in the Philippines.

Board refers to Professional Regulatory Board of Fisheries which is under the administrative control and supervision of the PRC.

The board was created in accordance with Sec. 115 of The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998. The PRC, by issuing PRC Resolution 2000-664, Series of 2000 created the Board of Fisheries on May 2000.

The first members of the Board took their oath in December 2000. The Board was composed of Dr. Rogelio O. Juliano as chairman, PCAMRD Deputy Director Cesario R. Pagdilao and ATI Deputy Director Asterio Saliot as members. The first Fisheries Technologist board examination was given on October 1 to 2, 2003 in Manila.
