Geologist

Geologist refers to a person, who is a holder of a valid certificate of registration and professional identification card from the Board and PRC. He/she, who shall, for a fee, salary or other reward or compensation paid to him or through another person, render or offer to render geological work by means of signs, cards, advertisements, or any other way, in the form of consultation, geological investigation involving geological mapping, paleontology, petrology, mineralogy or other branches of geology.

Board refers to the Professional Regulatory Board of Geology in the Philippines, in accordance with R.A. No. 4209 and R.A. No. 8981.

Except as otherwise allowed in Geology Profession Law of the Philippines, a technical written examination is required to be undergone by all applicants for registration for the practice of geology.

Applicants for geologist board examination shall establish to the satisfaction of the Board:
a. He is at least twenty-one years of age.
b. He is of good reputation and moral character.
c. He has graduated from a school, college or university by the government, with any of the degree of:
1. Bachelor of Science in Geology, Geological Engineer, or Master of Science (Geology)
2. Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering
3. Bachelor of Science, major in Geology
4. Bachelor of Arts, major in Geology

Scope of Geologist Board Examination

The examination shall include:
1. General Geology; covering physical geology, historical geology and/or paleontology, geomorphology, map interpretation, report writing, etc.
2. Petrology and Mineralogy, covering rock and ore specimens, petrographic principles, megascopic mineral determinations, mineral assemblages and composition, crystal habits and form, etc.
3. Structural Geology; covering structural geology, stratigraphy, sedimentation, photogeology, etc.
4. Economic Geology; covering ore deposits, mineral resources, mineragraphy. geochemistry, geophysics, etc.

Oath of Profession

All successful examinees shall be required to take a professional oath before the board of geology or any government official authorized by PRC to administer oaths, prior to entering upon the practice of geology.
