Interior Designer

Interior designer is a natural person who has been issued a certificate of registration and a valid professional license by the Board of Interior Design, in accordance with Republic Act No. 8534.

Board refers to the Professional Regulatory Board of Interior Design.

A written technical examination is required to be undergone and passed by all applicants for registration as interior designer, as provided for in Philippine Interior Design Act of 1998.

Applicants for interior designer board examination shall prior to admission to the exam, establish to the satisfaction of the Board:
a. He is a citizen of the Philippines.
b. He has not been convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude.
c. He is a Bachelor of Interior Design or Master of Interior Design degree holder in a school, academy, institute, or college duly recognized by the government.

Scope of Interior Designer Board Examination

The exam shall cover but not limited to:
1. Interior design.
2. Furniture design and construction.
3. Materials of decoration.
4. History of arts and interior design.
5. Building construction.
6. Professional practice and ethics.

These subjects and their syllabi, may be amended by the Board so as to conform to technological changes brought about by continuing trends in interior deign.

As provided for under Section 16 of R.A. No. 8534, in order to pass the examination, an examinee must obtain a weighted general average of seventy-five percent (75%), with no grades lower than sixty percent (60%) in any given subject.

Oath of Profession

All successful examinees shall be required to take a professional oath before the board or any government official authorized by PRC to administer oaths, before entering the practice of interior design.
